The Agricultural Science Association (ASA) has announced details of its 2007 International Research Fund. The fund, which is sponsored by AIB, provides generous financial support to ASA members to travel abroad and study topics of relevance to the agriculture, food and rural development sectors in Ireland.
Applications are now being sought from members of ASA for the 2007 fund. The successful applicant will receive funding of up to €6,000 to cover the cost of an international study. Previous recipients have travelled to the US, Canada and throughout Europe to study topics and technologies of direct benefit to Ireland.
ASA President, Dr Dermot Ruane, said the fund is a central feature of the association's member development programme and is highly valued by ASA members who work across the entire spectrum of the agri-food sector.
"The globalisation of the food sector, the increase in bio-fuel production and the continuing worldwide debate over food policy are just some of the issues that provide opportunities for ASA members to broader their expertise through international study. There are also opportunities for post-graduate students to advance their knowledge through interaction with colleagues around the world," said Dermot Ruane.
The closing date for applicants for his year's fund is 18 May 2007.
