Irish National Stud & Gardens

Japanese Gardens 2 Japanese Gardens 3

From horses to horticulture the Irish National Stud & Gardens is one of Ireland’s true treasures. The Stud Farm is the home of equine royalty, immaculately-bred stallions who can be seen and admired alongside protective mares, frolicking foals and athletic yearlings. See retired equine stars like Vintage Crop, Moscow Flyer, Kicking King and Beef or Salmon on the stud’s ‘Living Legend’s’ team.

In the world-famous Japanese Gardens, you can follow the path called the ‘Life of Man’ which traces the passage of a soul from birth to death and beyond, at the same time providing a meeting place for the cultures of East and West.

St Fiachra’s Garden symbolises the power of the Irish landscape while the Horse Museum includes the skeleton of the legendary Arkle.

Russborough House

RussboroughHouse RussboroughHouse

Built in 1740, Russborough House is often referred to as ‘the most beautiful in Ireland’. It houses one of the most impressive Private Art Collections in Ireland which may be viewed by taking a guided house tour. The exhibition centre tells the story of Russborough from 1741 to the present day. This Palladian mansion situated near the Blessington Lakes was designed by Richard Cassels in 1741 and has the longest facade of any house in Ireland. It stretches to 700 feet across the beautiful Wicklow landscape overlooking the Blessington lakes.

The Parklands are equally pleasing with a 20,000 sq ft maze, a fairy trail, a playground and walks. The 18th century walled garden has been under restoration since 2011 and will be open for guided tours for pre-booked groups in 2017 and beyond.

The East & West Courtyards house working artisans. A new Bird of Prey Centre is located alongside the West Courtyard.

Russborough will probably be the highlight of the day and it should be a great tour.
