It has been a busy few months for our younger ASA members with a lot of events and activities taking place.

The year started off with our Young Members Career event which was organised by Ellen Standish, ASA Young Council Member 2016 – 2017. The event was held in Citywest Hotel and welcomed over 110 members. Speakers included Susan Doyle, HR Director Bord Bia; Valerie Farrell, HR Manager, Teagasc and Philip McCabe, Glanbia Agri Business who gave an overview of their individual recruitment process’s along with some general advice on how to secure an interview, how to best present yourself and the importance of planning your career path now for the future. Career-focussed events such as these provide invaluable support to our young members and we plan to host these on an annual basis. Presentations and photographs from the event can be accessed here.

During February and March, the ASA attended Careers Day’s in both UCD and WIT and the Agri – Careers Fair in the RDS. These events provide us with a great opportunity to engage with of our members. This was the first year that WIT hosted a careers event and it was a great success. We would like to congratulate all of the team involved. We also hosted over 150 student mock interviews with fourth year students in UCD and WIT. Feedback from the interview panel was very positive with an extremely high standard of proficiency demonstrated by the students. We would like to congratulate
the winners from both UCD and WIT and thank all of our members who joined the interview panel.

Our six PWE Travel Bursary winners are currently on placements in Australia, New Zealand, America and Canada. Keep up to date with their adventures by following their blogs. Recently, Ellen Buckley hosted a takeover of the Irish Farmers Journal Snapchat account to highlight her experience. Make sure to follow us on snapchat @ASAIreland for the next one – coming soon.

Congratulation to David Kehoe 4th Year WIT Student who was the winner of our International Study Trip Bursary. David will travel to the Netherlands for 3 days at the end of May with 30 other ASA Members.

Finally, good luck to all of our student members about to take their final year exams. We look forward to working with you as you begin your career.
